The Story

Based on the filmmaker’s own story, THE TALE is an investigation into one woman’s memory as she is forced to re-examine her first sexual relationship and the stories we tell ourselves in order to survive.

Starring in THE TALE is the two-time Academy Award® nominated actress Laura Dern (WILD), Academy Award® winning actress, Ellen Burstyn (REQUIEM FOR A DREAM), Jason Ritter (KEVIN (PROBABLY) SAVES THE WORLD), Elizabeth Debicki (MAN FROM UNCLE), Frances Conroy (AMERICAN HORROR STORY), John Heard (HOME ALONE), Academy and Grammy Award® winning, Common (SELMA), and newcomer Isabel Nelisse (MAMA). 

THE TALE’S Director/Writer is Sundance Grand Prize Winner and Emmy® nominated Jennifer Fox (FLYING: CONFESSIONS OF A FREE WOMAN, MY REINCARNATION). THE TALE’S Producers are: Oren Moverman (THE DINER), Lawrence Inglee (DAY AFTER TOMORROW), Laura Rister (MARGIN CALL), Mynette Louie (THE INVITATION), Sol Bondy (YOUTH), Simone Pero (For Impact Productions), Regina Skully (THE INVISIBLE WAR),  and Lynda Weinman (UNREST). THE TALE is aimed for a wide mainstream audience to be launched at “A” list festivals and then released theatrically, on television, and on all platforms around the world. In addition, an extensive outreach and educational campaign will accompany the film’s commercial release, which is designed to inspire fresh perspectives and catalyze further learning, discussion and understanding around themes of women and girls’ empowerment and sexual abuse.
